Where's Dr. Mushroom? – Speaking at the Sixteenth Annual World
Congress on Anti-Aging Medicine and Regenerative Biomedical Technologies
Dr. Marvin Hausman, MD, a.k.a. Dr. Mushroom, offered insight from his research
on aging during a speech at the Sixteenth Annual World Congress on Anti-Aging
Medicine and Regenerative Biomedical Technologies, held July 17-19 at the Gaylord
National Resort and Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Hausman's speech, titled "The Modulation of Aging through Apoptosis," focused
on balance within cells, particularly the balance of electrical energy. Dr.
Hausman's argument is that cells in the body use electrical energy to control
cellular life and processes. In order for cells to remain healthy, they must
maintain a proper energy balance. One of the biggest threats to this balance
comes from free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that have lost an electron,
which means they are no longer in electrical balance. As a result, free radicals
attempt to steal electrons from normal cells, which, if successful, throws
those cells out of balance.
Research indicates that when cells are out of electrical balance, they are
more prone to illness and disease. Hence, as Dr. Hausman points out, maintaining
electrical balance in cells is a key to prolonging the health and life of cells.
This is where antioxidants come in. The benefit of antioxidants is that they
supply electrons, thus neutralizing electron-deficient free radicals. Proper
nutrition and the eating of antioxidant-rich foods supplies the antioxidants
the body needs to counter free radicals.
While there are a number of antioxidant-rich foods, none compare to the mushroom.
As Dr. Hausman notes, among the many nutrients in mushrooms is L-Ergothioneine
(ERGO), an antioxidant far more powerful than other substances such as beta-carotene
and vitamins C and E. And more importantly, mammals have a unique “transporter” system
that easily promotes the transfer of this potent antioxidant to where it is
most needed in the body, such as the red and white blood cells.
Dr. Hausman’s life-long work has been driven by his belief that it ought
to be possible for the vast majority of people to live past the age of 100
and still be healthy at that age with the bodily functions and mental acuity
of younger person. Hence, he is working hard to spread the message about the
nutritious benefits of mushrooms. It's his faith in mushrooms as a "super
food" that led to his research that resulted in the development of the
Matrix.
The Matrix consists of organically-grown medicinal mushroom species that research
indicates are potent sources of bioactive nutrients and antioxidants. Unlike
synthetic and/or extracted nutrients found in many other supplements or food
sources, those in mushrooms are easily absorbed and used by the body to counter
the damaging effects of free radicals – damage that can lead to early
aging, illness and disease.
The Mushroom Matrix line of nutritional supplements for humans, horses and small
animals are composed of organically-grown medicinal mushrooms and are produced
by Golden Gourmet Mushrooms of San Marcos, California. More information on the
nutritional benefits of mushrooms, as well as links to some of the research behind
the theory of the Matrix, can be found at www.mushroommatrix.com. |
